Abhijeet Sawant Beaten Up By Mob

MUMBAI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- First “Indian Idol” winner Abhijeet Sawant was beaten up by mob on Tuesday after his friend Prajakta Shukre rammed intro scooter, injuring two persons. The incident took place in Daulat Nagar in Santa Cruz around 11:30 on Tuesday when Prajakta Shukre’s driving car hit the scooters. The injured brothers, Toufiq Khan (19) and Tauhid Khan (14) were rushed to the hospital immediately after the accident.

The eyewitnesses said that Abhijeet Sawant and Prajakta Shukre were drunk and the duo got into a verbal fight with the pedestrians when the latter tried to stop them. The Santacruz police officials said that the duo was sent for an alcohol test and medical examination at Bhabha Hospital. The eyewitnesses reported that there were three cars, Abhijeet Sawant was driving his car, Prajakta Shukre was driving her sedan and they were racing late at night. After the accident Abhijeet Sawant got out of his car began to speak in favor of Prajakta Shukre. The mob became angry when the singer hurled abuses at them and beaten him up.

It was after the police van arrived at the spot the brought the mob under control. Abhijeet Sawant was immediately taken into custody. A source close to Santacruz police said that the law enforcement officials are waiting for the medical reports to arrive. Bollywood sensation Sonu Nigam along with other aspiring singers went to police station after they learnt about the incident. On the other hand Prajakta Shukre reportedly said that they were not inebriated and the angry mob beat up Abhijeet Sawant and hurled abuses at them. She also reportedly said that the mob pushed one of her friend Antara violently and then banged her head against the vehicle.
