LONDON - Emma Thompson, who was criticised for her plans to take her 10-year-old daughter Gaia out of school to spend a year travelling the world, has quietly begun her gap year.

The British actress has, however, agreed to scale her plans for her daughter.

“She is taking time off to spend some quality time with her family,” The Telegraph quoted a friend of the Oscar-winning writer of ‘Sense and Sensibility’ as saying.

“As part of that, she will be going on various trips, but she won’t be travelling the whole time,” she added.

It is believed that Thompson will travel to Africa to show Gaia and Tindyebwa Agaba, the Rwandan refugee whom she informally adopted, some of the places that she has visited with the charity Action Aid.

The actress had said that she wanted Gaia, her daughter with actor-husband Greg Wise, to take an extended vacation before she starts her secondary education. (ANI)
