MUMBAI - The promo of ‘Dhobi Ghat’ was released here on Thursday.
Interacting with mediapersons, Kiran Rao, the director of the movie, said the first promo was released to familiarise the audience with the leading characters of the movie.
“It is the first look of the film, like a curtain raiser, a sort of teaser/trailer. We wanted our audience to be familiar with its four leading characters, that’s why we have not added dialogues in the promo,” said Rao.
Aamir Khan and wife Kiran Rao jointly produced ‘Dhobi Ghat’, under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions.
Argentine composer Gustavo Santaolalla composed the music of the movie.
Rao further said Khan’s role was not decided earlier.
“In the beginning, Aamir was not meant to be in this film. It’s a short film, which I wanted to do with a very small crew and unknown faces for which I tried a lot and tested many characters.
When I showed my idea to him (Aamir) and discussed, we were not getting anyone who could perform one of the leading characters so Aamir said, ‘you could try me’, means he could give it a try,”
“So, I said, ‘yes’, to him and he said, ‘you would get an idea about how this role can be played’. And after the audition, his plan was successful. I could not look further and had to cast him only,” said Rao.
The story is entwined with interpersonal relationships and revolves around four different people of Mumbai.
In the film Aamir khan is playing one of the leading the roles of a painter and Prateik Babbar, the son of veteran Bollywood actors Raj Babbar and late Smita Patil is portraying role of a Dhobi.
The film is scheduled to be premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in the short films category and is slated to be release on January 21, 2011. By Shaikh Sharik (ANI)
