WENATCHEE (GaeaTimes.com)- Sad news for all those in Wenatchee who have spent the better part of their youth at the drive-in theaters as the Vue Dale Drive-in has officially closed this Sunday. Reports suggest that the owner of the 57 year old drive-in plans to sell the property for commercial and residential purposes. The money will be used by the company to develop a 14-screen multiplex.
The two screen Wenatchee Valley icon was one of the 7 remaining drive-ins in the state. The owner revealed earlier that no closing event was planned as the weather was unpredictable at the time. Some feel that the reason for the closing of the Vue Dale was the advancement in technology. For some, however, the 57 year old was a relic from the motoring days and had a charm about it. The owner revealed in an interview last month that some of the pieces from the Vue Dale will be incorporated into the new 14 screen multiplex.
The last week of the Vue Dale drive-in ended with Vampire flicks and other action movies. On Screen 1 it was ‘Machete’ and the multistarrer ‘Expendables’ and on Screen 2 it was the ‘Twilight Saga :Eclipse’ and ‘Vampires Suck’. The construction of the new multiplex is expected to be completed by May next year and that would allow the new theaters to benefit from the blockbuster summer releases of 2011. The cost of the project is expected to be $8 million. Several bloggers have revealed their memories of the Vue Dale in Wenatchee. Many found it the ideal place to go with family on the weekend.
