Veteran British actor SIR MICHAEL CAINE is convinced his near-death experience in the Korean War made him a nicer person - because he became more caring towards others.

The Get Carter star was called up for national service in the British Army at the age of 18 and he was deployed to South Korea to help in the aftermath of the North Korean invasion.

Caine, who served as part of the Royal Fusiliers, admits he came close to losing his life during the conflict - and he’s sure the experience changed his life.

He tells Britain’s The One Show, “If you survive it turns you into an entirely different person with a great deal of feeling for others and for life. To this day (it remains).”
