Replacements bassist’s Haiti aid auction kicks off

PHILADELPHIA — Some rock ‘n’ roll history is on the auction block to help children left homeless by the Haitian earthquake.

Tommy Stinson has put several guitars and trademark custom-made plaid suits on the auction site charitybuzz.com.

The legendary Replacements bassist, who has a home and recording studio outside Philadelphia, is raising money for a nonprofit called Timkatec.

The organization houses and educates children in the Port-au-Prince area.

In a phone call this week during a Guns N’ Roses tour stop in Belgrade, Serbia, Stinson told The Associated Press the auction is off to a great start.

More than $10,000 has been raised since the monthlong auction started Tuesday. Also being sold are VIP concert passes, trips and art by former Replacements drummer Chris Mars.
