Similac Recall 2010 Details

Los Angeles (GaeaTimes.com) - Abott Laboratories have issued a voluntary recall of certain baby food product of their company called the infant formulas from the Similac-brand powder. The five million products were sold in the United States, Guam, Puerto Rico and some Caribbean countries.

The company is taking back the product due to the presence of some common beetles in the powder. FDA revealed that this may not cause a life threat but if the beetles are ingested by the kids it may cause discomfort, irritation of gastrointestinal tract causing lose of appetite for the babies.

Abott spokeswoman Melissa Brotz said in a statement about the recall. She said that after small insects were discovered in the cans of milk that are produced at a manufacturing facility in Sturgis, Michigan it was decided to recall several products. She further added that company would do anything to maintain the trust of parents in their products. The company has already stopped production in that facility. She has also pointed that FDA did not find out any health hazard for the kids who consumed the products.

The company has issued the specific products are 8-ounce 12.4 ounce and 12.9 ounce cans of Smilac powder with the lot numbers of 87932T20, 88117T26, 78208T2, 88136T20, 91433t20, 800-986-8850, 800-545-5216, 800-515-7677, 800-986-8800, 847-937-6100, (847) 935-8865,(847)935-3456, 66128RB6, 61251 RB6, 61347RB, 84314 RB, 85454T2, 86580 T20, 88137T20 and 90372T20.

The products not included in the recall are all Abott Nutrition liquid ready-to-feed, concentrated infant formulas and all the powder and liquid specialty formulas such as Similac Expert Care, Alimetum Elecare, Similac Expert Care Neosure, SimilacHuman Milk Fortifier. The metabolic formulas for inherited disorders are also in the list not harmful to health.
