Kutty Srank Bags Best Film In National Awards

September 17, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Director Shaji N Karun’s Malayalam movie Kutty Srank has won the National Award for ‘Best Film’, which was announced on Wednesday. Apart from this, the film has bagged awards in other sections too like ‘Best Costumes’ award for Jayakumar, ‘Best Cinematography’ for Anjali Shukla and ‘Best Screenplay’ for P F Mathews and Harikrishna.

Malayalam film megastar Mammootty is playing the lead role in Kutty Srank, which was released on 23rd July, 2010. The movie revolves around a mariner operating a cargo vessel near Kochi. The film tells the story from the perspectives of three different women following the death of the protagonist, played by Mammootty. Each of them shares different experiences with Kutty Srank. The three ladies in the movie are played by Kamalinee Mukherjee, Padmapriya and Meenakumari.

Another Mammootty starrer Malayalam magnum opus Pazhassi Raja has been named the best Malayalam movie. It also bagged the awards for ‘Best Background Scoring’, ‘Best Sound Recording’ and ‘Best Editing’ for Illayaraja, Rasool Pookkutty and Sreekar Prasad respectively.

Total 11 sections were won by the Malayalam movies in the 57th National Awards event. This include the ‘Best Children’s film’ for Keshu, ‘Best writing on cinema’ for C S Venkateshwaran and special award for ‘Best child artist’ for Hasna.

In brief, Mollywood has rocked in this year’s National Film Awards!
