New Spidey star prepped for role all his life

TORONTO — New “Spider-Man” star Andrew Garfield can barely remember a time when Spidey and his awkward alter-ego Peter Parker were not part of his life.

The 27-year-old Garfield says he’s been playing Spider-Man since he was 4 years old. He says he easily related to the Marvel Comics character — “a skinny boy who felt stronger on the inside than he looked on the outside.” Garfield adds that his affection for Spidey has stayed with him as he’s grown up.

Garfield made his comments this week at the Toronto Film Festival, where he’s promoting two upcoming dramatic films. The British-raised actor starts shooting the new incarnation of the “Spider-Man” franchise in December.
