September 4, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): The Bengali film industry is riding high this year, the well known directors have come out in full force with their offerings to International cinema. In recent news, Sanjoy Nag’s ‘Memories in March’ got selected for the ‘New Current’ a competitive section for budding Asian film makers.

Speaking about the project, actor-scriptwriter-production designer Rituporno Ghosh said that the one-of-a-kind theme of the movie attracted him to the project. Rituporno said that the screenplay for the movie started evolving into a stunning narrative. Death has been a favorite subject of Bengali film makers, but this movie takes on the subject of mortality and goes beyond that.

The story revolves around a grief stricken mother who comes down to Kolkata to perform the last rites of her 28-year old son, who was killed in an accident. The mother comes to collect her son’s belongings but she realizes that her son’s belongings are ubiquitous among his friends and colleagues who developed a strong connection with him.

Director Sanjoy Nag is truly elated that his film has been selected to compete for a spot at the Pusan IFF. The director added that there is $30,000 prize for the winning film but finally it is the exposure that matters.
