Aarohan Gets Selected For Montreal Film Festival

September 2, 2010 (Sampurn Wire):The Bengali Film ‘Aarohan’ got selected for screening at the Montreal Film Festival. The film festival commenced on August 26 and it will continue till September 6. ‘Aarohan’ stars veteran Actor Soumitra Chatterjee, Sandhya Ray and Rituparna Sengupta. The film has grabbed a slot at the ‘Focus on World Cinema’ section in the Film festival.
Director Pinaki Choudhury is a happy man; he said that the festival directorate has asked him to send the rough-cut of the movie. This selection will boost the popularity of Bengali films in the International film fraternity. The ‘Focus on World Cinema’ section will represent films from America, Europe, Asia and Africa. ‘Aarohan’ is centered around the city of Benares and depicts an emotional drama set in the Ghats of the famous city. The film tells the story of an old couple who come to the ancient Hindu city to spend the last days of their lives. The couple take refuge at a salvation home, which offers shelter to old people who are about to die.
Choudhury had read a news article and was intrigued by the idea of a salvation home or ‘Moksha Bhavan’. The film deals with the idiosyncrasy of religion and society as they try to bind down human lives. Choudhury considers this movie as an exploration of life and death that continues to inspire him.
