LOS ANGELES (GaeaTimes.com)- Veteran actor-director Mel Gibson on Sunday lost control at the wheels of his 2008 Maserati and ended up crashing the vehicle into a hillside in Malibu. However, the actor has remained unharmed by the crash as was revealed to media sources by the California Highway Patrol on Monday. The accident took place late on Sunday and no other person or vehicle was involved in the accident. Mel Gibson was reportedly driving alone in his 2008 Maserati when the accident took place. His smashed car was towed from the scene of the accident.

The California Highway Patrol on Monday released a statement regarding Mel Gibson’s car, a 2008 Maserati, crash. The statement held that there was no other vehicle involved and that the actor was not found under the influence alcohol or any other kind of drugs. Leland Tang, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Public Information Officer said that Mel Gibson had maintained in front of the police that he did not have any idea how he lost control at the wheel. The actor has also denied being on cell phone during the accident.

The California Highway Patrol statement on the incident held that Mel Gibson provided the officers with all pertinent information at the scene and also gave a statement as was asked from him. The actor left the place in the car of one of his friends. However, the recent 2008 Maserati accident is not the first for Mel Gibson who was arrested at the wheel for DUI in 2006. He was found at the wheels with 1.5 times the legal blood-alcohol limit and was sentenced to three years probation. The actor then had to undergo alcohol rehabilitation and shell out 1,300 dollars.
