MUMBAI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)-It seems that the Akshay Kumar-Priyadarshan magic is working again at the domestic box office. The comic caper dealing with the menace of bureaucracy in Indian politics which released all over India this Friday is likely to become a hit if the initial reports are to be believed. In fact Akshay Kumar acted in several comedies directed by the director and they have done well at the box office. The success story of the duo dates back to 2000 when the cult hit Hera Pheri was released. In Khatta Meetha the veteran actor shares screen space with newcomer Trisha Krishnan. The film is doing better in the B and C centers compared to the metros, as the reports are indicating.
Khatta Meetha has garnered Rs 650 million in its opening day in India which is a pretty encouraging figure for the makers of the film. It is pitted against the latest Hollywood release ‘Salt’ starring actress Angelina Jolie. The latter is not getting great response as such. There are other Bollywood releases like the smart comic caper ‘Tere Bin Laden’ and the critically acclaimed ‘Udaan’. Both the films are benefitting from word of mouth publicity. However, at the box office Khatta Meetha’s biggest contender is another Hollywood Heavyweight, the latest Christopher Nolan flick ‘Inception’.
The multiplex owners are hopeful that the collection of Khatta Meetha will pick up in its second week. The actor arranged for an exclusive screening of the film for two union ministers yesterday. The director is also hopeful about the prospect of this comic film.
