MUMBAI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- It seems that with the increasing invasion of quality Hollywood movies in India, Bollywood is taking a backseat. The superhero flicks have always been popular with the Indian cine-goers but nowadays, a major part of the India viewers are getting interested in serious themed Hollywood flicks. That explains why the much awaited movie from ace director Christopher Nolan has got a great opening in India while the two latest Bollywood releases are getting lackluster response. The box office collection of “Inception” has overshadowed that of the recent Bollywood releases namely “Tere Bin Laden,” “Lamhaa” and the critically acclaimed “Udaan.” It is quite amazing considering all three films got good pr- release coverage by the media. “Lamhaa” in particular has an impressive star cast.
“Inception,” a Warner Brother release is also doing well at the global box office. The film is also getting good response from the critics. However, the producers of the three aforesaid movies that have got average openings are hopeful that they will pick up in the next week and benefit from word of mouth publicity. “Inception” has opened to a heartening 75-80 percent opening which is pretty good for a Hollywood movie in India.
The number of multiplexes in India is growing steadily and this has also resulted in the increase in the Hollywood movie viewers. The fact that a number of theaters are showing the movie with Hindi dubbed version of “Inception” is also helping its collection to grow. The major multiplex chains like Inox and Big Cinemas are upbeat that the film will do record business in India.
