LONDON - Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio was among passengers on a plane bound for Moscow that was forced to make an emergency landing at JFK airport shortly after leaving New York due to engine problem.

Delta Flight 30, a Boeing 767 jet, encountered engine problems soon after taking off at 9.40pm British time this weekend.

The left engine of the plane, which was carrying 193 passengers and 11 crew members, automatically shut down.

The plane was forced to circle New York for about an hour and 10 minutes as the pilot dumped fuel.

DiCaprio, 36, was heading to St. Petersburg, Russia for the Tiger Summit, which will call for measures to protect endangered tigers.

A spokesman for the Hollywood star confirmed he was among the passengers and said he wished to “commend the actions of the pilot and flight crew in bringing the plane to a safe landing.”

A New York Fire Department spokesman said that more than 100 firefighter were on standby at the airport after reports of a fire on a wing.

However, there was no fire detected during early inspection of the plane on the ground.

“The plane landed safely and taxied to the gate. All passengers exited safely,” the Telegraph quoted a spokesman as saying. (ANI)
