Bosses at auction website eBay.com have thwarted scalpers hoping to get rich from selling free tickets to a JIMMY BUFFETT charity gig - by banning the sale of passes for the Gulf Coast benefit.

More than 30,000 tickets for the easy listening star’s free 1 July (10) Alabama concert with country stars Kenny Chesney and Zac Brown were snapped up as soon as they became available on Wednesday (23Jun10) - and opportunists who got their hands on passes have offered them as sale items on eBay.com.

Sickened by the thought of callous scalpers using the popular website to cash in on the oil spill benefit, eBay bosses have stepped in and pulled all reference to any sale.

One Buffett fan says, “As soon as the tickets went, they began showing up for sale on eBay for more than $100 each.”

Buffett hopes to use the upcoming concert to raise awareness and help for the residents and businesses hurt by the BP oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico.
