Roshans make up for Bachchans’ absence (IIFA Diary)

COLOMBO - The Bachchan clan was sorely missed at the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards here but the Roshan family seemed to make up for their absence as Hrithik’s filmmaker grandfather J. Om Prakash too walked in to receive a special award.

So the entire family - Hrithik, his wife Suzanne Roshan, father Rakesh Roshan, mother Pinky, sister Sunaina along with her husband, and maternal grandparents - attended the glitzy ceremony late Saturday.

The reason for this togetherness was that Om Prakash, who has made films like “Aap Ki Kasam” (1974), “Aasha” (1980) and “Aas Paas” (1981), was honoured for his outstanding contribution to cinema. And the award was presented to him by grandson Hrithik.

Getting nostalgic, Om Prakash said that the biggest achievement for him is that people now know him as Hrithik’s ‘naana’ (maternal grandfather).

“I am fully content with what I have achieved and I feel that I have accomplished everything now. My life is complete. But the biggest achievement for me today is that I am recognised as Duggu’s (Hrithik’s nickname) grandfather,” Om Prakash said at the award ceremony.

When Salman, Anil danced to Boman’s tune

Versatile actor Boman Irani showed a different side of his personality as he played the guitar and sang a song at the IIFA Awards here Saturday. And two people who enjoyed his performance to the hilt were actors Salman Khan and Anil Kapoor.

Boman sang “Give me some sunshine” from the film “3 Idiots” at the event and both Salman and Anil supported him throughout by doing some dance moves from where they were standing and tried to motivate the audience too.

After seeing Salman and Anil’s enthusiasm, the audiences joined in and soon the venue was abuzz with claps and people singing along with Boman.

Boman’s interest in music and guitar is not unknown. Sometime back, the 50-year-old had posted on his Twitter page: “Off for my first guitar lesson. One of my unfulfilled desires. Hope I take to it. Have many others. One at a time.”

The IIFA awards were held at the Sughathadasa Indoor stadium.

Salman started his performance with the song “Love me, love me” from “Wanted”, but soon he was joined by Govinda on stage as the song “Do you want a partner” played out.

The actors enthralled the audience with their antics and just then Anil, who usually doesn’t perform at award nights, entered the stage with the song “No entry”.

Dressed in formal suits, the trio took centrestage and left the audience wanting for more.

When Riteish embarrassed Neil at IIFA

Riteish Deshmukh, who is known to play pranks, embarrassed Neil Nitin Mukesh when he showed his semi-nude picture from the movie “Jail” and asked why he was exposing so much.

An embarrassed Neil said: “The director of the movie wanted me to do this and hence I did it.”

But Riteish wasn’t done with pulling Neil’s leg and said: “Abhi aisa kar rahein ho to aage kya karoge?’(When you are doing such stuff right now, what will you do in future?)

Neil blushed and couldn’t find words to match witty Riteish who, along with Boman Irani, has been hosting the IIFA awards for three years now.
