LOS ANGELES (GaeaTimes.com)- “I Am Legend” was one of the top grossing films that had been released in that year, what with the unique premise and the amazing performances put up by Will Smith. Moreover, the film touched the chords of all sections of viewers, even those who generally prefer to stay away from futuristic science fiction films, thanks to the basically emotional tale at its heart. The film has again been released recently on Blu Ray and DVD, but this time, with a twist. The film this time has alternate endings, that is, the DVD version of the film comes with two endings, the original one and the one that was released worldwide in the theaters.

Now that both the versions of the ending of the film are available, critics are divided upon the opinion about which one is the better one, although so far, with no “I Am Legend” alternate ending in view, everyone seemed quite happy with the ending they wee served up. The critics are vastly divided in opinion, with some deciding that the version that was released theatrically was the more apt one, while still others feeling that the original ending would have been far more suitable to the context of the story.

The “I Am Legend” alternate ending, that is, the original one, was taken directly from the book of the same name by Richard Matheson. In the original ending, Robert Neville comes in very close contact with the mutants, something that was not really shown in the ending that the film was released with. All in all, some critics feel that the film would have been far more hard hitting had it been released with the ending taken from the book.
