June 2, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Subhrajit Mitra is busy working on his upcoming film Aagunpakhi (The phoenix), which is typically based on the troubled times of today, with details of the Maoist activities. The film has depicted the struggles of the backward people for justice. It is produced by Mindscapes Maestro and manages to raise many questions which remain unanswered till date.

The star cast of the film includes Rituparna Sengupta, Sabyasachi Chakrabarty, Shrreya Pande, Sagnik, Anindya and Ankita Rajesh Sharma. Shantilal Mukherjee and Kharaj Mukherjee are a part of this forthcoming film too.

Ace cinematographer Rana Dasgupta has been working on the film while Debkanta Chakrabarty, a noted film editor from FTII has edited the film with Goutam Basu as its art director. The music has been done by Kalyan Sen Barat.

The film was awarded an A certificate for the nude scenes of Shrreya, Ankita and Sagnik. The rape sequence of Shrreya, where she was draped in only a sari and dragged by several men is yet another reason for the A certificate. While the rape scene isn’t a part of the film, the prelude is scary too. The love making scene between Ankita and Sagnik, has also resulted in raising the hackles of the censor board. Most of the scenes have been shot in the moonlight which lends a natural touch to the film.

Aagunpakhi, is technologically the best Bengali film till date, as it has more than 180 seconds of full VFX sequences. The film has used “Da Vinci Resolve” 4k D.I. console too. It is the technology used for colour correction in Hollywood films.

The film budget is about 2.5 crores, and it has been shot in the forests of Dooars, North Bengal and West Midnapore.
