LOS ANGELES (GaeaTimes.com)- Though the Anurag Basu directed and Rakesh Roshan produced “Kites” has received not so good criticism from Indian film critics it seems that nothing can affect the popularity of “Kites” in the U.S. film market as according to the latest reports the “Kites” entered the top 10 weekend box office hits. It has already made a collection of about $1 million from more than 200 screens all over North America which is reportedly the widest release for any Hindi film till date in the continent. In U.S., many theaters are also showing the specials 90 minutes English version of “Kites” that has been edited by Brett Ratner.
“Kites” entry into the top 10 box office films in North America in the very first weekend makes it the first Hindi movie to get such a wide response. It seems that the people of North America are enjoying every moment of the screen presence of the Bollywood heartthrob Hrithik Roshan and Mexican beauty Barbara Mori on screen. The U.S. film critics have gone on to praise “Kites” and some media reports claim that it is the first Hindi movie that had received so many mainstream reviews at the very opening day of the film. A popular website that posts film review aggregates went on to give 85% to “Kites“.
The action-romance film “Kites” not only had a grand opening in U.S. but also at U.K. reportedly. At U.K box office the film opened at number five, which proves its popularity in the European market as well. In India, the Kites saw a grand opening and reports claim that it had a second biggest opening till date trailing behind “3 Idiots”.
