Streaming music service Spotify now in Netherlands
THE HAGUE, Netherlands — Streaming music provider Spotify launched in the Netherlands on Tuesday, making it the seventh country where the London-headquartered service is available.
Spotify said in a statement it has struck licensing deals with major and independent record labels to give its users access to a library of 8 million songs.
It also has a deal with Buma/Stemra, a Dutch group which aims to ensure composers and text writers are paid whenever their music is used.
Spotify founder and CEO Daniel Ek says Tuesday’s launch aims to give “the best possible legal music experience” to Dutch fans.
Spotify is available as an ad-supported free service but also as an ad-free paid subscription. It already was available in Britain, Sweden, France, Spain, Norway and Finland.
