Fallon says he hopes to keep the Emmys classy
NEW YORK — Jimmy Fallon’s main goal for hosting this year’s Emmy Awards is to keep it classy.
The 35-year-old was named this week as the host of the Aug. 29 show honoring the best of prime-time television.
“I just want to make it a classy, fun event,” Fallon said. “I remember watching the Emmys every year at home. My mom would dress up in a gown and give acceptance speeches.”
The late night talk show host wants the telecast to be an event to get excited about.
“It should be fun. Have an Emmy party at your house,” he suggested.
Fallon has a lot going on. He attended the White House Correspondent’s Dinner on Saturday and was a guest at the annual Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala Benefit on Monday night in New York.
Beginning Monday, “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” will do a weeklong tribute to the Rolling Stones, including a telecast of the new documentary, “Stones in Exile.”
“Between writing sketches with Mick Jagger, hanging out with the president and eating caviar with Anna Wintour, it’s been a pretty good week,” joked Fallon.
Soon he will turn his focus to preparing for the Emmys.
“I love television. I love show business. I think it’s fascinating,” he said. “The fact I’m hosting the Emmys is right up my alley.”
