Brazilian crooner still looking for perfect song

LOS ANGELES — One of his songs was dedicated to a pope and many of his tunes are YouTube sensations. Yet Brazilian crooner Roberto Carlos says he’s still looking for the “perfect song” — even as he celebrates five decades of performing.

Carlos said in a phone interview from Miami this week that he’d “like to make an even greater love song — one that says something that hasn’t been said.”

Carlos, who turns 69 on April 19, will visit New York, Los Angeles and other cities as part of a North American tour celebrating his 50-year career.

He’s had countless mega-hits in both Portuguese and Spanish, and his song “Amigo” was used to pay homage to the late Pope John Paul II when he visited Mexico.
