Officials at leading gay rights group the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) are saluting pop star RICKY MARTIN for ‘coming out’ on his website.

The Latino star ended years of speculation about his sexuality on Monday (29Mar10) by revealing he’s a proud homosexual in a statement on his official site - and American activists are thrilled.

A statement from GLAAD President Jarrett Barrios reads, “When someone like Ricky Martin comes out, hundreds of millions of people now have a cultural connection with an artist, a celebrity and, perhaps most importantly, a father who happens to be gay.

“His decision to model this kind of openness and honesty can lead to greater acceptance for countless gay people in the U.S., in Latin America and worldwide.”

In his big reveal, Martin told fans, “I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man. I am very blessed to be who I am.”

This letter is for all the Gay leaders, we need to do something about sexual orientation since the early childhood. We need sexual orientation classes in school as early as junior hign, because people have to stop pointing fingers and saying you are normal and you aren’t. My son is gay and he is thirteen just as recently as a week he finally told be about it. I asked him since when he knew this feelings and he said since he was nine. I knew he had that sexual orientation because you can notice it since the early years. He has had many problems in his studies and in his life and I think it is because he does not want to be rejected by this ugly society that likes to point fingers and jugdge people. I think that if we orient people and children since young and make this matter a normal talk among people everything could change. My sister also has a gay son and he even tried to kill himself. People need to except this and get familiriazed with what is a homosexual. People need to understand that this is something that could happen to anyone but people are not being honest with themselves. Please contact me and let me know what you think of my letter. Thanks.
