Filmmaker: Channels showed porn, not his comedy

COLUMBIA, S.C. — An independent filmmaker and former lawmaker from South Carolina is suing cable TV channels Cinemax and The Movie Channel.

He claims they promoted his film “The Hill Have Thighs,” then showed a soft-core pornographic film late at night by the same name.

James “Bubba” Cromer said in the suit filed on Monday in Los Angeles that he noticed earlier this month his comedy “The Hills Have Thighs” was listed on the two channels. The listings described his movie and its actors.

He says he told all his friends and colleagues to watch the movie, but it ended up being the other film, with nudity and other sexual content.

Cromer is asking for an unspecified amount of damages. HBO, which owns Cinemax, says it never promoted Cromer’s film.
