AP Interview: Hamas spy unafraid, criticizes Islam
NEW YORK — A former Palestinian spy who helped Israel’s security forces kill and arrest members of the Islamic militant group Hamas (hah-MAHS’) says he’s not afraid to die.
Mosab Yousef (moh-SAHB’ YOO’-sef) tells The Associated Press he’s willing to speak out about Hamas’ brutalities and the evils of Islam even if it gets him killed.
Yousef’s memoir was published this week. In it he describes his more than 10-year relationship with Israeli security service Shin Bet.
During the AP interview, Yousef took shots at Hamas leaders such as political chief Khaled Meshaal (MAH’-shahl). And he hurled his most inflammatory comments at Islam, which he called a religion that teaches people to kill.
The U.S. government considers Hamas a terrorist organization. Hamas says it provides schools and other social benefits to residents in the areas it controls.
