Lawyer says Turkish pop star charged after raid
ANKARA, Turkey — The lawyer for Tarkan, Turkey’s best-known pop star, says prosecutors have charged the singer after he was detained in a narcotics raid.
The star, who goes by only one name, was released from custody Monday following his detention with 10 other people after a raid in Istanbul on Friday.
Tarkan thanked fans for their support, saying he realized “just how much I am loved.”
Attorney Yunus Egemenoglu says “the truth will be revealed at the end of the trial.” He did not specify the charges.
No date has been set for trial. Prosecutors would not comment.
The star has sold millions of records in Turkey. He reached the top of the music charts in France in 1998 with “Simarik” (”Spoiled”).
