Parents angry at American Idol contestant
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The success of an “American Idol” contestant is causing a stir among parents say they never got refunds for fees in a failed musical Todrick Hall wrote and directed.
On Tuesday, Hall made it into the top 24 on “American Idol.” But this time last year, he was involved in a national tour of “Oz, The Musical.”
When the production went belly up, auditions had already been held in several cities and parents had paid a $50 performing fee for their children to be in the show.
Dallas businessman Greg Money said he was responsible for the show’s finances and that it wasn’t a scam. It simply ran out of money.
Reached by phone Friday, Hall said “American Idol” rules don’t allow him to participate in interviews, but he did generally confirm Money’s account of events.
