White House hastens concert to beat snow
WASHINGTON — The coming snow storm forced the White House to hold its concert of civil rights-era music one day earlier to beat another round of wintry weather.
The White House said Tuesday it would host Bob Dylan, Smokey Robinson and Natalie Cole for a Black History Month concert later in the evening. The event had been scheduled for Wednesday, but the White House said the impending weather hastened the move.
On Tuesday afternoon, high school students were set to attend a workshop with Robinson and Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon, one of the original Freedom Singers.
Other scheduled performers include Joan Baez, Jennifer Hudson and John Mellencamp. John Legend, Seal and Morgan Freeman also were joining in the 8 p.m. East Room event.
