GUWAHATI - A beauty pageant, aimed at encouraging budding models from northeastern states, was organised in Guwahati on Tuesday.

Scores of budding models participated in the event, named ‘Mega Miss North East Contest 2010,’ which promised them a wider and progressive exposure in the national and international arenas.

After gruelling sessions that included mandatory ramp walk and answering questions from the judges, Punam Kalita was crowned as ‘Miss North East 2010′, while local girl Bidisha Baruah, and Soma Devi from Manipur were adjudged the First and Second Runners Up, respectively.

The winners said the event would provide more exposure to regional models.

“I am sure that (the) Northeast will promote more fashion in national and international level…I would like to work in that in my best level in other fashion events,” said Soma, the second runner-up.

The fashion show also promoted social values and this year the motto of the contest was ‘Childcare’.

Now the winner would travel to all eight states of Northeast and to create awareness on childcare.

“This year the motto is supported by i.e. on child means care for child beautifully…the winner will travel to all across the region i.e. all eight northeastern states promoting this certain cause ‘promote childcare beautifully’,” noted Abhijit Sinha, the organiser of the event. (ANI)
