LONDON - Rap star Wyclef Jean has requested aid from fans for earthquake victims in Haiti, his native land.

The singer, who is a roving ambassador for Haiti since 2007, urged support from international community.

He Tweeted: “Your money will help with relief efforts. They need our help - please help if you can.

“Pray for the people of Haiti [and] me please.”

The former ‘The Fugees’ star brought to attention the seriousness of the situation in the Caribbean state hit with 7.0-magnitude quake.

“A natural disaster of unprecedented proportion… unlike anything the country has ever experienced,” the BBC quoted him as stating.

He added: “I cannot stress enough what a human disaster this is, and idle hands will only make this tragedy worse.”

Jean provides humanitarian aid and assistance to the island through his Yele Haiti foundation.

He was born in Haiti in 1972 but relocated to New York with his family when he was nine. (ANI)
