San Francisco- The Bill Porter story as seen in the “Door To Door” movie is the touching tale of a salesman. No ordinary salesman, because he is affected with the crippling condition of cerebral palsy. The film is based on the true story of Bill Porter, whose destiny had decided since his birth that he would not be able to lead a normal life. The two hour long film, produced by Turner Network Television and directed by Steven Schachter, stars Oscar nominated actor William. H. Macy in the role of the protagonist and Shelley Brady, Helen Mirren and Kathy Baker essaying the other pivotal roles.

The Bill Porter story is exactly as it is seen on the “Door To Door” movie. Bill Porter was born with cerebral palsy that made sure that he went without a job for a large part of his life, most of the companies refusing to employ him on account of his disabilities. The film traces the struggle of the man as he tries to secure a job for himself, as per the final wishes of his father, a successful salesman himself. Not being able to drive, he is compelled to walk the several miles of the worst route that he pleaded with the Watkins Company to assign him.

After years of faithful and back breaking service, he became the Salesman of the Year. The story of Bill Porter as it is shown in the “Door To Door” movie does not awe us with the achievements of someone with superhuman powers, rather, it is the tale of an ordinary man who manages to come out at the top, overwhelming all the odds stacked against him.
