San Francisco- Syfy has come up with the idea of rehashing an old but evergreen story in a new package. The new original series of the production house is called “Alice”, based on Lewis Carroll’s classic tale “Alice in Wonderland.” The writers have smartly intertwined both “Alice in Wonderland” and “Through the Looking Glass” in the plot. Rather than keeping the original backdrop, the director has maintained the story line and the characters, though largely molded to a futuristic avatar, more to suit to the tastes of a diverse audience. On a whole, the children’s classic has been transformed in the hands of Syfy to a modern, gritty epic saga of adventure.

In the “Alice” Syfy film, Caterina Scorsone essays the role of Alice Hamilton, a modern day take on the demure and innocent character in the book. She is smart, independent and trained in martial arts, can kick some butt if required. Her journey into the teeming with casinos Wonderland is not some accidental foray but purposeful as she sets out in search of her kidnapped boyfriend with the help of a magic looking glass. She is accompanied by the Hatter, played by the British actor Andrew Lee Potts. The writers look beyond the face of the slightly imbalanced but amusing character to discover the grim opportunist.

The other characters in the four hour long film are played by Phillip Winchester as Jack, Alice’s boyfriend, Matt Frewer as the White Night and Kathy Bates as the scheming Queen of Hearts, besides Caterina Scorsone and Andrew Lee Potts in the “Alice” Syfy film.
