LIVE AID promoter MAURICE JONES has died at the age of 64.

After starting his music career managing British band Slade, Jones founded his own promotions company, which worked with the likes of AC/DC and Def Leppard to Simply Red, Eurythmics, UB40, Simple Minds and, later, Oasis.

In 1984 Jones teamed with Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to promote the fundraising extravaganza Live Aid. He later founded British rock festival Monsters of Rock.

Jones lost his long battle with cancer last week (ends 13Nov09). He is survived by his wife Diana and daughters Kristy and Nicola.
