LONDON - Daniel Craig has surprised the bosses of MGM studio by revealing the start date for the next James Bond film.

According to Variety, after a performance of “A Steady Rain” Friday, a fan asked Craig about the follow up to “Quantum of Solace” and the actor responded saying that the next 007 flick will begin shooting next year.

MGM has not publicly announced the start date for the next Bond film. The last news on the franchise was that screen writers Peter Morgan, Neal Purvis and Robert Wade were writing the screenplay for the next instalment.

The company, which is currently working to restructure its debt, had not commented on Craig’s revelation.

Curiously, a director still hasn’t been picked for the next film. Martin Campbell helmed “Casino Royale” and Marc Forster directed “Solace”, but neither is expected to return to the franchise any time soon.

Those last two chapters in the Bond series were mammoth hits. “Solace” grossed $586 million worldwide and “Royale” grossed $594 million.

“A Steady Rain” is Craig’s Broadway debut alongside someone who also knows something about franchises, “Wolverine” himself, Hugh Jackman.
