A peek at plans for D23, Disney’s first fan expo
ANAHEIM, Calif. — The Walt Disney Co.’s four-day fan festival, D23 Expo, promises sneak peeks at Disney properties and inside scoops on what’s happening at the mouse house. A look at highlights from the inaugural Expo:
THURSDAY:
— Disney president and chief executive Robert Iger welcomes fans to D23.
— Robin Williams and the cast of “Golden Girls” receive honors for their contributions to the Disney legacy at the company’s Legend Awards.
— ABC presents its fall slate of TV shows, including a live preview of “Dancing With the Stars.”
FRIDAY:
— Walt Disney Studios chairman Dick Cook presents footage from upcoming films “Alice in Wonderland,” ”Disney’s A Christmas Carol” and “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.”
— “TRON” director Steven Lisberger offers a peek at the upcoming “TRON: Legacy” and leads a discussion about the sci-fi classic.
— Disney experts present rarely seen animated short films from the Disney vault, including some of Walt Disney’s earliest animation efforts.
SATURDAY:
— Preview of rides and attractions destined for Disney parks.
— “The Princess and the Frog” filmmakers discuss the animated musical and show footage.
— Nearly 50 rare collectibles, including a check signed by Walt Disney, go up for auction.
SUNDAY:
— Pixar chief John Lasseter discusses the future of Walt Disney and Pixar Animation and shares a peek at upcoming pictures including “The Princess and The Frog,” ”Rapunzel” and “Toy Story 3.”
— A double-feature of the 3D versions of “Toy Story” and “Toy Story 2.”
— The Muppets talk about what’s ahead for Kermit and crew.
