Son of late Grammy nominee to take over NYC church

NEW YORK — The son of the late Grammy-nominated gospel singer Timothy Wright will be installed as pastor of his father’s Brooklyn church.

A family spokesman says 30-year-old David Wright will become leader of the Grace Tabernacle Christian Center Church of God in Christ on Sunday.

The Rev. Timothy Wright died in April. He was paralyzed from the neck down following a July 2008 car crash in Pennsylvania that killed his wife and grandson.

The 61-year-old Wright — known as the “Godfather of Gospel” — received a Grammy nomination for his 1994 album “Come Thou Almighty King.”

He started the church nearly 20 years ago.
