CHENNAI - Popular Tamil actress Trisha is all set to make her Bollywood debut opposite Akshay Kumar, but insists that her foray into Hindi films shouldn’t be seen as competing with Asin.

I neither wanted frantically to do a Hindi film nor do I treat Asin as my competitor. All I’m concerned about is the films I’m starring in; I hardly have the time to check and monitor others’ career, said Trisha.

Some people are spreading rumours that my Hindi film effort is to keep Asin in check. They want to portray me as her competitor. The fact of the matter is that Akshay was very impressed by my performance in ‘Abhiyum Naanum’ and wanted to cast me in the film ‘Kattha Meetha’, which would be his home production,” she added.

“I’m extremely happy that Priyadarshan, who introduced me in Tamil films with ‘Lesa Lesa’ some years ago, would be doing the same in Hindi films, Trisha said.

Priyamani too goes to Bollywood

After Asin, Genelia D’Souza, Shriya Saran and Trisha, yet another south Indian actress is entering the Hindu film world albeit in an indirect way. Priyamani would be essaying a role in the Hindi version of Mani Ratnam’s Tamil film “Ravanan”.

She would be portraying the same role in the Hindi version and the National Award-winning actress is mighty excited about the significance of her character in the film.

The actress, who has worked in Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu films, won the National Award for best actress for her performance in Tamil film “Paruthiveeran”.

Glamorous Mumtaz is slimmer and back to work

Tamil actress Mumtaz, who is known for her sizzling item numbers, is back in action and has lost oodles of weight too.

“After ‘Veerachamy’, many in the industry had written me off. I had taken a brief sabbatical not without a valid reason. I personally felt that I looked fat and ugly. I wasn’t getting many offers and whatever offer came my way didn’t translate into actual chances once the director/producer saw my physique. So I took it up as a challenge and shed 21 kilos,” said Mumtaz.

She is now flooded with offers after her performance in “Rajadhi Raja”, in which her character had shades of grey, and of course, her newly-acquired fabulous figure.

“The offers are so many that I now have the liberty to choose or reject from those offers,” she added.
