NEW DELHI - Spanish heartthrob Enrique Iglesias’ music is so popular in India that 30.6 percent of all his downloads are accounted for by the country.
The singer, popular for numbers like “Hero” and “Escape”, is also second on the list of the top most downloaded male Latin music artist of 2010. He has been beaten by Colombian crooner Shakira, reveals a study by Nokias Ovi Music.
“The latest Ovi Music trends show how Enrique Iglesias has brought Latin music to the world stage, appealing to people across the globe. Whilst Shakira’s latest music has become more pop focused, she still retains her title as the world’s most popular Latin music artist - beating all the male acts to the top spot,” said Ovi musicologist Geoff Roberts in a press statement.
Iglesias will be competing with some of the biggest stars of the Latino music scene at the Latin Grammy awards this week. His number “Cuando Me Enamoro” is competing in the best song category.
Ovi Music also found out that Iglesias’ “I Like It” is the most downloaded Latin music track of 2010 and his latest album “Euphoria” is also the top downloaded album this year.
