SAN FRANCISCO (GaeaTimes.com)- Come September 30 and the world gets ready to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their favorite modern Stone Age family, the Flintstones. Google has marked the occasion with a special doodle on the homepage. Though the original series ran from 1960 to 1966, the Hanna-Barbera production went on to become one of the most celebrated animated series of all times.
The Flintstones was one of the most loved animated series and it was years later that its record of being the longest running primetime animated series was broken by ‘The Simpsons”. The show appealed to the adults and children alike and the creators said that it became much more than just the animated version of ‘The Honeymooners’ which ran at the same time as the original animated series. The shows influence on pop culture continues till date. A number of theme parks and even vitamins have been named after the show and its contents. One of the most popular spinoffs of the Flintstones was the show ‘The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show’ which dealt with the teenage daughter of Fred and Wilma Flintstone.
The original Flintstones revolved around the life of Fred Flintstone who was a working class man in the fictitious land of bedrock. The people of the town used some of the most modern technologies that were created with the help of prehistoric items and even creatures. Fred Flintstone’s character was known for its sudden fits of anger and clumsy ways. It is said that Alan Reed who lent his voice to the character physically resembled the animated character of Fred Flintstone.
