Mehta announces 2012 NY Philharmonic departure
NEW YORK — The president of the New York Philharmonic has given his two-year notice.
Zarin Mehta (ZAH-rin MAY’-tuh) announced Monday he’s leaving office when his contract expires at the end of August 2012.
He is also the orchestra’s executive director and started with the organization in 2000.
Mehta says the recent appointment of Alan Gilbert as the philharmonic’s 25th music director is his proudest achievement.
Mehta is the brother of conductor Zubin (ZOO’-bin) Mehta, who led the philharmonic from 1978 to 1991.
