“World Tourism Day” Being Celebrated Today

GUANGZHOU, CHINA (GaeaTimes.com)- World Tourism Day will be Celebrated Today, September 27, 2010 in many parts of the world. This day is being celebrated since 1980 by the United Nations World Tourism Organization as on the same day in the year of 1970 the statues of the organization were adopted.The day celebrates the significance of the Tourism industry in promoting and preserving biodiversity besides providing economic and social benefits to its country. This year Guangzhou China is the official host for the World Tourism Celebrations 2010. The environment today though suffers from many global warming and many other resulting issues that might affect Tourism industry in the long run. The industry is strongly related to natural biodiversity as the best tourist spots in the world are nature oriented.
The beauty of the Tourism industry lies in its ability to generate huge amounts of revenue and foreign capital without harming the greeneries in any manner. Different institutions and countries celebrate the day in different manner. WTTC has been organizing “Tourism for Tomorrow’s Awards” for the past seven years. The entries are open globally. There is an international panel of judges who oversee a rigorous on-site evaluation process and recognizes advances in best sustainable practice worldwide. China is the official country this year to host the “World Tourism Day” celebrations where a photo competition on the theme ” Tourism and Biodiversity” was held.
There were about 500 photographs from all over the world out of which the judges had the difficult task of selecting one best photo and four runners up. The winning photographs has been published in the latest edition of UNWTO News, which happens to be a special World Tourism Day edition.
