MALIBU (GaeaTimes.com)- Ricki Lake, the American actress and television host escaped fire after her rented Malibu home went ablaze. When the actress began to refuel her portable heater the couch caught fire and it resulted in the complete mess, the Los Angeles County sheriff Lt. Rich Erickson said. However, Ricki Lake in one of her recent interviews said that she feels blessed as she could escape the fire unhurt.

The police said that they responded to a 911 call and saw that Ricki Lake and her two sons along with their dog was standing outside the home. The firefighters were called to put out the fire and it took them 20 minutes to stop the flames. The firefighters said that they used power tools to cut into gates of adjacent houses to protect them. Ricki Lake’s house, which is situated at the west of Topanga Beach is now completely damaged owing to the fire. Ricki Lake first hogged limelight when she started her own popular syndicated talk show.

Ricki Lake’s representative after the accident said that the actress has asked people to teach others the importance of fire safety. The representative said that Ricki Lake is “grateful” as her family was unharmed. The representative said that the fire happened quickly and it was indeed a “frightening” experience and presently she feels “gratitude” and blessings. The representative said that Ricki Lake has asked her fans and everyone to use smoke detectors and fire extinguishers. The actress took to her social networking site to thank all her well wishers for their prayers and blessings. The representative of Ricki Lake said that the actress went under shock when the incident took place.
