NEW DELHI - The capital is hosting a two-day international film festival featuring short films on the Millennium Development Goals (MDG).

The festival, “Eight”, will showcase short films on themes of development issues like ending hunger, universal primary education, gender equity, child health, maternal health, environmental sustainability, combating HIV/AIDS and other diseases.

Movies of filmmakers like Mira Nair, Gael Garcia Bernal, Abderrahmane Sissako, Jan Kounen, Gasper Noe, Jane Campion and Wim Wenders will be screened at the festival.

Bollywood actor Kunal Kapoor inaugurated the two-day film festival Friday.

Supporting the millennium development causes, Kunal said: “For more than a year, I have been associated with ‘Save the Children - Everyone’ campaign which focuses on tackling child mortality.

“To do this we need to see progress on other millennium development goals such as tackling undernutrition, reducing maternal mortality, improving girls’ education. We know this can and must change.”
