George Parks dies of heart attack at 57

Los Angeles (GaeaTimes.com) - George Parks died unexpectedly after a heart attack while traveling to the University of Michigan on the evening of September 16, 2010 in Ohio, as stated by the doctors. He was 57 when he left this world.

George Parks, the Director of the University of Massachusetts Minuteman Marching Band, was born on 1953. He was with the UMass Minuteman Marching Band. Mr. Parks leaves behind a wife and two children.

as stated by Chancellor Robert Holub about Parks. He showed his regret on the tragic death of this eminent professor. In addition, he said that Mr. Parks was excellent as a teacher and many people were inspired by him. He was the Professor of Music at the University of Massachusetts situated in Amherst. He got many awards like the University’s Distinguished Teacher Award and the Chancellor’s Medal for Distinguished Service.

He was an Honorary Alumnus of the University of Massachusetts and the founder of George N. Parks Drum Major Academy. He was intimately associated with Bowl Games of America. He assisted in the production of Massed Band Halftime. Mr. Parks served as director of the University of Massachusetts Amherst Minuteman for 33 years. He was the part of the band which consisted of 350-member. It was on its way to Ann Arbor, Mich., where it was to perform at Saturday’s UMass football game which was against Michigan. The UMass band performed at three presidential inaugurations under Parks. In 1998, it won the nation’s top honor for a marching band, Louis C. Sudler Trophy.
