Sondheim to be honored with a Broadway theater
NEW YORK — Stephen Sondheim is getting a belated birthday gift: His name on a Broadway theater.
The 1,055-seat Broadway theater on West 43rd Street is currently named after actor-producer Henry Miller. It is being formally renamed Wednesday in honor of Sondheim, who turned 80 in March.
The “Company” and “Follies” composer and lyricist is expected to be on hand when the new marquee is lit. Also expected to attend are his longtime collaborators Patti LuPone, Nathan Lane and John Weidman.
