August 28, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Renowned orator Sukumar Azhikode has filed a defamatory case against Malayalam film megastar Mohanlal at Thrissur. The famous writer and critic Azhikode has also asked for a compensation of Rs 10 lakhs for blemishing his public image and a public apology.

The source of all these controversies is the expulsion of veteran actor Thilakan from the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) early this year. Azhikode took side of the veteran actor and spoke on his behalf, which did not go well with AMMA. On the other hand, Mohanlal was on the side of AMMA, which led to a war of words from both the sides.

In February, the first bombardment of rude words came from Azhikode as he criticized the megastar saying that Mohanlal should now limit himself to the roles that match his age as he has turned quite old now. The former Pro-Vice Chancellor of Calicut University Azhikode stated that Mohanlal should stop endorsing jewellery to earn money.

In March, Mohanlal replied back saying that he had taken the statements of Azhikode as joke of some aged uncle. He also said that ‘hallucination’ could be the reason of Azhikode stating all those. Mohanlal further said that Azhikode is no one to decide or suggest whether he should stop acting or no.

The 84 year old litterateur Azhikode informed that a legal notice has been served to Mohanlal and with this the first step of a defamation case has started. He also added that as per his counsel, they will take strong legal steps against the actor if he does not offer an apology for defaming him.

Now, the whole industry is looking up to Mohanlal and how he manages this legal problem!
