August 23, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Any film, be it starring Aamir Khan or produced by him, is followed by controversies soon after its release. It has been the case with the Bollywood actor for past few years of his career. Right after Fanaa was released, Aamir’s comment on the controversial Narmada issue led to a ban on the movie’s screening in Gujarat.
Rang De Basanti got into controversy following the protest of some animal right activists against some portions of the movie’s title song. Aamir’s comments on Black, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Rani Mukherjee, led him to a cold war with Big B when Taare Zameen Par was released. There were controversies over Chetan Bhagat’s claim to be credited for the story of 3 Idiots, the latest release starring Aamir Khan.
Now, Peepli Live, the actor’s latest home production movie, has fallen prey to controversies. In Vidarbha, a few peasants’ families have raised their voice against the screening of the movie as they reasoned that the movie has not depicted the farmers’ plight from correct perspectives. A hand pump, gifted to the protagonist in the movie, has been referred to as Lal Bahadur. It has drawn severe criticism from two members of the CBFC panel. Moreover, some did not like way the media has been presented in the film.
Despite all controversies and criticism, Peepli Live is going on well at the box office.
