Naomi Campbell To Testify in Charles Taylor’s Trial

SIERRA LEONE (GaeaTimes.com) — Charles Taylor, the former Liberian President’s war trial has become the focus of attention.
The former African Leader who is under trial on 11 counts of severe war crimes like murder, rape, sexual slavery and dealing with Blood Diamonds. In a surprising revelation Naomi Campbell, the British super-model will testify against him.

Naomi Campbell allegedly received a large uncut diamond from the staff of Charles Taylor. The incident reportedly took place after they met in the gala party hosted by Nelson Mandela in 1997. It is reported that Taylor raised funds for the brutal war in Sierra Leone by dealing in Blood Diamonds. Naomi later talked about the incident to an American Actress Mia Farrow. Mia will testify in the same case next week.

She told us she had been awakened in the night by knocking at her door. She opened the door to find two or three men - I do not recall how many - who presented her with a large diamond which they said was from Charles Taylor,

Naomi Campbell had denied any links with Charles Taylor so far.
In the Oprah Winfrey show she said that she was concerned about her safety after being linked to the case. A subpoena was issued in her name that made it mandatory for her to appear in trial. She would face a seven year jail sentence if she fails to appear before the court.

Incidentally Naomi Campbell is known to have issues with the law and order in the past. She was sentenced to 200 hours of community service for assaulting a police official. Let us see what new direction the trial takes after Naomi’s testimony.
