LOS ANGELES (GaeaTimes.com) — How the West was Won was a western television series that centered on a former cavalry scout named Zeb Macahan (James Arness). Zeb, with the help of their aunt Molly (Fionnula Flanagan), had to take care of his nephews and nieces after their parents died in an accident - they are Luke (Bruce Boxleitner), Laura (Kathryn Holcomb), Josh (William Kirby Cullen) and Jessie (Vicki Schreck). Luke, the oldest, was branded as a fugitive accused of murder after he had killed three men in self defense and deserted the army. The series also deals with Indians, bandits, and all other problems in the untamed west during the pioneering days.
How the West was won aired on ABC for three seasons (25 episodes) from February 6, 1977 to April 23, 1979. The series is loosely based on the 1963 film of the same name. It’s considered by many as the greatest and the last true western series of all time.
